Born in 1984 with a multi-cultural upbringing, Cora Tang began expressing her world view through visual arts as a small child. Bored with praise and approval in her angst-driven teens, she began test the boundaries of story-telling in her art. She has a tendency to seek large audiences for her work, giving way to the balance of mutiny and commercialization in her art today.
“Subject motifs include religion, morality, cultural stereotypes, social distance, and tendencies of the human character. . . ” Tang believes, “. . . a reflection of self is manifested by the viewer.”
She continues her work in with brush and ink. Taking inspiration from figurative works in the style of renaissance portraiture and dutch still-life, Cora chooses a subject to give a subversive twist. She uses the chiaroscuro technique (the use of light and dark to render form) often working from a black canvas and building layers of color and light. In her commissioned paintings, she offers her audience an array of subject matter, from religious iconography to moody landscapes to deceased pets. Murals and private collections of Cora Tang’s paintings are currently on display for public viewing at hundreds of California locations from San Diego to the San Francisco Bay Area.
Cora Tang is experienced in building successful brands and businesses from 16 years of entrepreneurship plus a day job as Executive Director in the Spirits Beverage Industry. She designs and consults for small businesses’ logos, brand development, sales strategy, and commercial artwork.
